Personality & Traits

General Overview Jinn is charming and charismatic, holdovers from his acting days. He outwardly displays a lot of confidence, to the point of coming across boastful at times.

He has a hard time taking anything seriously, and thus can seem careless. Combined with his moral ambiguity, this can be off-putting to people as he may seem uncaring. A lot of this to keep people at arm's length. He enjoys being liked, but finds it difficult to maintain close relationships.
Strengths & Weaknesses Jinn is a gifted telepath and has been trained to use this trait to his advantage. He can read a person quickly and adopt mannerisms and languages, which has served him well both in his acting and as a smuggler/quartermaster. His charm and charisma makes people feel at ease. He has a great sense of humour.

He has been described as a jack-of-all trades and truly is a master of none, unless bullshitting can be considered a trade.

He has trouble respecting authority figures, especially those he sees as less intelligent than himself. Combined with his aloofness, this doesn't endear him to many commanding officers.
Ambitions Jinn isn't terribly motivated. Eventually, a nice slice of land and numerous gorgeous partners to cater to his ever whim is really all he desires.
Hobbies & Interests Jinn is an accomplished actor, and enjoys the theater and holonovels. He's also an avid reader.

Personal History Jinn Gorell was born the only child of a modest family on Betazed in 2341. His father was a low-level bureaucrat and his mother stayed home to raise him. Both of his parents were gifted telepaths and they passed that trait down to their son. By all accounts, he was a beautiful child, a fact that did not go unnoticed.

From a young age, he garnered interest from holonovels as a model and his parents were eager to raise their standing and happily thrust him into that role. It was the only life he knew growing up, eventually transitioning into other roles such as the theater and holodramas.

It was a lonely life, and one that bred arrogance in the young man, as well as an emotional withdrawal from his parents, who were clearly using him to better their lives. He was subjected to minor cosmetic procedures at a young age to make him look more universally appealing.

Jinn enjoyed acting. Disappearing into a role, living someone else's life, it was an escape, one that he cherished more and more as he grew older. To be fair, he also appreciated the fame, if not the responsibilities that went along with it. He developed several vices during this time, but these introduced him to a world behind the world, back alley dealings and criminal activities.

Eventually desiring to emancipate himself from his overbearing parents, Jinn just never returned home from one of his acting gigs. Using his newfound underworld contacts, he was able to change his name and take on a new identity and career path: He became a smuggler.

Under his new identity, he was able to apply Starfleet Academy, completing two years and learning the rudimentary skills of life aboard a starship. Upon leaving Starfleet, and using funds he had been setting aside throughout the last few years of his acting career, he purchased a ship for himself and began his second career in earnest. He was 20 years old.

By 25, he had developed a reputation as a skilled negotiator, using his telepathy when he could, and his natural charm when he couldn't. He had very few morals or limits as a smuggler aside from avoiding slavers, as a general rule. His preferred cargo of choice was weaponry, and he made himself a tidy profit as a gunrunner, enough to purchase another two ships and expand his operation.

He first met and contracted Lorato Carter around the end of the Federation-Cardassian War. When the treaties were signed, he began doing business with Maquis cells and Federation colonies that had suddenly found themselves under Cardassian rule. He and Carter worked together on several occasions, developing a mutual respect and even slight friendship.

The Cardassians stepped up their aggression, and over time, his fleet of three became a fleet of one, the cost of doing business. When Lorato began officially fighting the Cardassians, Jinn offered her his services as a quartermaster aboard her vessel, selling his last ship and investing his money in futures elsewhere.

He had been serving under her for two years when they were flung across the galaxy by an unknown force...
