Star Trek

USS Pioneer

Welcome to the USS Pioneer!

In 2371, the USS Pioneer was dispatched on a mission to hunt down the renegade Maquis crew of the SS Washington. Venturing into the Badlands, they were instead swept up by an energy wave which catapulted them 70,000 light years away, into the heart of the Delta Quadrant. Stranded and with large swathes of their numbers lost, both crews have had no choice but to join forces for the long, long journey home.

In this universe, the missions of Captain Janeway's USS Voyager or Chakotay's Val Jean never happened. In this reality, the Pioneer and the Washington are the combined crews of Starfleet and Maquis on a journey home against insurmountable odds, in a hostile and unknown region of space.

This game is a reimagining of the concept of Star Trek: Voyager, with an all-new cast. While it will draw upon elements of Voyager's canon, we intend to tackle the themes of the show in a more modern and direct manner. This crew will not integrate so easily; this ship will struggle for resources; this region of space will be inhabited by Kazon and Vidiians and other species who are as unfamiliar as they are deadly. But above all, however much we intend to write a labour of love in portraying Voyager as it 'should' have been, the story of Pioneer remains one of holding to hope and principles in the face of adversity.

But this adversity bites harder. Welcome to the Delta Quadrant.

I can happily, officially, officiously confirm the USS Pioneer is now Active! With our first Mission Post out, the game is live and will be cracking on with the adventures of this Alternative Universe Voyager.

I'd also like to use this opportunity to welcome our two latest PCs: Ensign ch'Shaorhs, the Captain's Yeoman, on a post designed for a bright young officer to learn from the seasoned Captain Wilder, and Ensign Summers, our Security Investigations Officer.

This further fleshes out our cast beyond just the usual senior staff, between primary and secondary characters, and as such I'm looking forward to a story where - bereft of the normal chain of command and support from Starfleet and the Federation - characters can shine beyond the usual constraints of rank and status.

Now, on with the show!

This project has been in the works for quite a while. We've had brainstorming and planning to do, far more than for the average game - and we've done it. Then I've been waiting for commitments to lighten up so I can get this started, and they of course have not.

As such, I am officially declaring that we're getting this show on the road anyway. The first post of Mission 1: Caretaker will go out on Sunday, 24/11/2019.

In the meantime, Mission 0 is open for business. Mission 0 will be an ongoing, perpetual mission for any stories which occur prior to Pioneer or Washington's abduction to the Delta Quadrant by the Caretaker. These can be ancient backstories from any character, the experiences of the Starfleet crew first boarding Pioneer, or the adventures of the Maquis crew from before their flight into the Badlands. Participation in Mission 0 is far from required, but it's a good place for us to produce standalone content and get to grips with our characters.

Then next week: We Begin.
